Vacuum pumps play a crucial role in the coal industry, ensuring safety, improving efficiency, and optimizing resource utilization. Their core application areas are as follows:
Gas Extraction
This is the lifeline of coal mine safety systems. High-power water-ring vacuum pump units, installed on the surface or underground, create a negative pressure extraction network covering the mining face, coal seams, and goaf areas. The primary purpose is to actively reduce gas concentration, fundamentally preventing gas explosions and outbursts. Simultaneously, the extracted gas, after purification, can be directly used for power generation or as domestic fuel, transforming a hazard into a valuable resource.
Coal Slurry Filtration and Dewatering
In coal preparation plants, this is the most common production application of vacuum pumps. They are mainly used to drive vacuum filters (such as disc and ceramic filters). The stable negative pressure generated by the pump penetrates the filter cloth, rapidly drawing out water from the fine coal or coal slurry, forming a solid filter cake with a low moisture content (usually below 20%). This greatly facilitates subsequent transportation, storage, and utilization, and reduces energy consumption.
Negative Pressure Pneumatic Conveying
This provides power for the enclosed transportation of powdered materials (such as prepared coal powder and ultra-fine coal slurry) within the plant. Equipment such as Roots vacuum pumps generate negative pressure in the receiving bin, safely and cleanly drawing the material through pipes to its destination. This method completely eliminates dust leakage, improves the working environment, and enables automated control.
Vacuum Priming and Drainage
Used for starting large centrifugal drainage pumps in underground coal mines. Before starting, a small vacuum pump is used to extract air from the pump body and suction pipe, creating negative pressure that allows water to automatically fill the pump chamber under atmospheric pressure. This ensures that the drainage pump can start normally and quickly, and is a crucial link in the reliable operation of the mine’s flood control and drainage system.
Auxiliary and Special Applications
These include providing slag removal power for underground drilling operations, preparing coal samples for laboratory analysis, degassing certain sealed equipment or pipelines, and providing a stable air source in specific dust removal or process steps requiring maintained negative pressure.
